Great interest was shown in the Second Grape and Wine Festival organized by the State Tourism Agency and Shamakhi District Executive Authority.
During the festival held on November 25-26, approximately 20 local winemakers showcased wines of different types and varieties, providing a tasting opportunity. Throughout the festival, various entertainment and musical programs were organized for two days.
The festival, first held in 2019, aims to promote local grape and wine production, enhance the export potential of wine products, and communicate the history of viticulture and wine production in Azerbaijan, along with the progress made in this field, to the public.
At the festival, for the first time in many years, a presentation of high-quality red table wines from the "Khindogni" grape variety was featured. These grapes are grown in Karabakh - Tugh, considered the oldest local technical grape variety in Azerbaijan.
Currently, alongside local grape varieties, worldwide known grape varieties are also cultivated in the country. The historical development of viticulture in Ganja-Kazakh, Karabakh, Shirvan, and the Caucasian foothills, as well as in Absheron and Lankaran-Astara regions, has also played a crucial role in the development of winemaking.
The State Tourism Agency conducts promotional and propaganda activities to highlight the ancient viticulture and winemaking traditions of our country. These efforts aim to develop winemaking tourism and establish winemaking tourism routes. Overall, the State Tourism Agency concentrates on organizing thematic festivals and evolving them into a tourism product.
